Defensive Driving Instructor Course – October 2021

This course is designed to train and qualify the students to teach the 24-hour driver training requirement in the 700-hour Academy curriculum. The student will also be qualified to teach the 8-hour Continuing Education class that is available to commissioned Missouri Peace Officers. The Instructor School consists of 12 hours of classroom topics including Principles of Learning, Training Liability, Fundamentals of Law Enforcement Driving and Vehicle Dynamics. The final 16 hours will involve becoming proficient in conducting driving practical exercises. You will need to use your assigned department vehicle during the practical exercise.
This course is not intended to teach students defensive driving. Those who register for this course should have strong defensive driving skills prior to registration. Students must be able to perform the practical exercises to receive a certificate of completion.
A minimum of 12 students is required to hold the course. We will fill the class on a first-come first-served basis. Register by September 24, 2021. This training qualifies for twenty-eight (28) hours of Missouri POST Continuing Law Enforcement Education in the area(s) of Technical Studies and Skill Development through the Missouri Sheriffs’ Association Training Academy, a POST-approved continuing education provider.
