Use of force by law enforcement and corrections personnel is constantly under scrutiny, no more so than in today’s environment. These individuals are often forced to make split-second judgments about the amount of force necessary in a particular situation in circumstances that are tense, uncertain, and rapidly evolving. The first step in making a good use-of-force decision is understanding the standard by which the use of force will be reviewed. This 90-minute presentation provides the foundational basis for making and reviewing use-of-force decisions.
