DESCRIPTION:POST #26284\n\n\nSome say the militarization of both rural and urban law enforcement may be attributed to the United States’ involvement in wars during the 20th century\, and to increasingly frequent encounters with violent protesters and criminals with automatic weapons\, explosives\, and body armor. After the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown\, and many other incidents that followed\, the militarization of policing and the use of military equipment by police became the subjects of contentious debate among the public\, policymakers\, and scholars. \nThis presentation begins by addressing the question\, “Have the police become over militarized?” It discusses the increased use of military style equipment and the possible negative consequences of a militarized police force.
