The addition of the semiautomatic rifle has increased the effectiveness of the patrol officer\, but it also offers challenges to the trainer. This course is a POST approved course required to obtain a patrol rifle specialist instructor license. This two-day course is mentally and physically demanding\, so participants must be in good physical condition. Participants should have an advanced working knowledge of weapons used and must pass an initial qualification course with a score of at least 80% on the first day of training to continue the course. Students must pass a written examination and shoot a qualification score of at least 90% to successfully complete the course. This is not a beginner’s course. Topics include range management; lead and hearing safety; range safety; and analysis and correction of shooter problems. You will learn the skills necessary to be a firearms instructor and instruct for your department. This is also an approved course necessary to be licensed as a firearms specialist through POST. You should already possess an excellent mastery of safe weapons handling skills and be physically capable of performing police combat shooting courses. This course is not designed to teach you how to shoot but is designed to teach you how to instruct others to shoot as a law enforcement professional. This program is POST Approved to meet the requirements necessary for licensing as a POST Generalist Instructor\, and specialist Instructor. The program starts on Tuesday\, May 16 with 3 days of interactive classroom training on course preparation; public speaking; principles of learning; the role of the instructor; training aids; training liability; test construction; methods of instruction; and adult learning principles. Students will be required to perform short classroom presentations and select a training topic that will be used to develop and present a 50-minute practical teaching exercise. Students will be on their own from Friday\, May 19 through the following Sunday\, May 21 to return home and work on their 50-minute presentation. On Monday\, May 22 students will return back to the classroom to work on and finalize their presentation with the aid of their instructor. Each student will present their 50-minute teaching exercise on Tuesday\, May 23\, 2023. \nDue to the interactive nature of this program\, class size is limited to 14 students. \nPRE-REQUISITES:\nStudents will be required to develop a source document and lesson plan for the 50-minute teaching exercise.
