Officer wellness has emerged as a pivotal focus for law enforcement in recent years. Operational challenges within agencies, including short staffing and increased demands, have directly contributed to a significant toll on individual officers: heightened stress levels, mental wellness issues and burnout are becoming increasingly prevalent, linking these systemic issues closely with officer wellness.
This raises a crucial question: How are these systemic pressures affecting the well-being of patrol officers, particularly those who joined the force since 2020? And what measures should agencies be putting in place to build resilient, healthy officers?
Police1 aims to delve into this matter to offer law enforcement leaders and communities insights into how the current climate is impacting officer wellness, safety and performance. We will explore the effects of systemic pressures on patrol officers’ well-being and identify strategies for resilience and health in law enforcement.
