Officers carry a variety of tools while on duty, and they receive training on most of those tools. Officers are taught how to shoot a gun, drive a car, and write a report on a computer, but officers do not generally receive training on carrying a knife. The knife is another tool routinely carried by officers and it can be a deadly weapon.
Officers MUST know how to carry a knife, how and when it can be used as a weapon, how to draw and use the knife to protect themselves, and their duty firearm. An edged weapon can be an effective weapon retention tool. This training program is a must-attend course for any police officer who carries a knife.
