This 48-hour course is designed to prepare the participant for working in a jail or detention center. It focuses on developing knowledge and skills to better equip an individual for maintaining the safety and security of a facility, as they ensure the incarcerated individuals’ needs are met in a humane and legal manner. It is a MUST for individuals just beginning a career working in a jail and a friendly refresher for those who have been working in a jail for some time.

When cell extractions are performed, even if everything, including the preplanning and the force used, was within policy, consistent with training, well supervised, and objectively reviewed, excessive force complaints as well as lawsuit litigation often follows. In short, cell extractions are a risk management nightmare.
This scenario and video based classroom presentation covers common statutes and rules affecting operations and staff. It also covers case law relating to the duty to attend to the serious medical needs of inmates and the legal duty to intervene to prevent inmates from self-harm, as well as harm at the hands of another, including jail staff.
